Not Good Hosts

Posted on the December 13th, 2009 under Media by admin

Is it me or do I find most TV hosts extremely boring?

And not only boring, but also filled with errors. For example, Ruffa said these quotes earlier today during her segment at the Buzz: “ma-intrigang intriga” and “…tough questions with Tough Ten Questions”.

I expect more from TV hosts. Not only should they be able to excite and entertain the audience, they should also speak logically and in a correct manner. Why? Because children watch them and these poor kids can get the bad speaking habits of these hosts, including their glaring grammar errors.

Just because you are good to look at and you can speak in front of a camera, that does not give you the right to be a host. Think of Ryan Seacrest. Think of Ellen DeGeneres. Think of Johnny Carson. Think of Mel Tiangco.

Fukuda Remote Control

Posted on the December 12th, 2009 under Uncategorized by admin

When I opened one of my kitchen cabinets, I was surprised, and also delighted, to find the remote control for my Fukuda television set. It has been months since I last used it (I usually misplace my stuff) so I expected for its battery to have already died out. Well, when I tried it I found out that it’s still working.

Now it came to me once again as to why I really seldom use the remote control. It’s one of the worst remote control units I have ever used! You really have to point it to the tv set and you have to be on a direct path to the set. If you are in an angle, the remote control unit will not work.

And that’s not good because I love working on my laptop while watching tv, and the way my working table is placed, it’s at an angle to the tv set. So I can’t use the remote control. I have to stand up, walk closer to the tv for the remote to work. And that’s not a good thing.

Maybe I’ll just by a universal remote control, one that has a better signal or coverage so I can use it while watching tv and also working on my laptop.

Chicken Pastel

I’m not really fond of eating chicken, however there is one dish that I like. It’s chicken pastel.

When I first encountered this dish, I was surprised to see a pie-looking food. And then when I dug in with my spoon, out came the hot and delicious chicken and vegetables filling. It was one of the most delicious thing that I ever tasted.

It has to be the crust. Whenever I go out and order chicken pastel, I make sure that there is a crust. Without it, I don’t consider it a chicken pastel. I’m not sure if the crust is required, but for me it is.

Maybe one reason why I like this dish is because I am a sucker for pies. I love pies such as apple pie, buko pie, blueberry pie and even pizza pie. The last one’s not a joke because I really love pizzas! Especially an all-cheese variant. It’s the perfect comfort food for me, and one of the main reasons why I am overweight.

Body’s Aching from Massage

Posted on the November 30th, 2009 under Personal by admin

I had a massage yesterday and the massage therapist really gave me a very hard massage. As a testament to that, my body’s aching up to now. But at least it lessened the back pain that I was feeling the past few days.

They say it’s not right when you’re starting to feel pain during the massage but I guess that’s just how it is when you requested for a hard massage. And I certainly got what I asked. It was effective because immediately after the session, my back pain’s gone and I was feeling better all over my body. It was truly relaxing. Although it was after a day when I finally felt the effects of having a hard massage.

I am tempted to take a pain killer but my mom warned me from using them as it can damage the kidney. If ever that’s true, I guess it’s only when you are taking those painkillers in a regular basis, which I don’t. Anyway, just to follow my mom’s advice, I opted not to take any and just try to get through the pain.

Driving Without Any Sounds

Posted on the November 16th, 2009 under Personal by admin

I drove from Makati to Libis today and just out of a whim, I turned off my car’s radio. I haven’t done that for a very long time now and I just realized what a relaxing thing it was to do.

Why? Let me count the ways…

1. I no longer hear about stuff related to Manny Pacquiao. Don’t get me wrong. I admire the Pacman, but to hear him on the radio, see him on TV and billboards almost 24/7 is just too much. I got so fed up with his exposure that I even stopped buying Head and Shoulders shampoo.

2. I was not able to hear a Tagalized American song.

3. No more DJ banters. I hate DJs who talk more often when they shold be playing music.

Those are just a few of the things that I was able to save myself from. I’m planning not to turn on the radio from now on, for as long as I can. Of course that’s a different story when my girlfriend’s with me. She can’t stand a trip without any sounds.  :)

It’s Always Nice to See Old Co-Workers

Posted on the November 5th, 2009 under Uncategorized by admin

I was standing in front of Megamall a few hours ago when a white pickup truck stopped. The driver lowered his window and shouted my name. It took me a few seconds before I realized who the guy was. It was Edwin, a former co-employee of mine. He was wearing this big smile as he moved his vehicle closer to where I was standing.

The last time we saw each other was about three years ago. He was the first one to resign from the company we were working for at that time. He was a good basketball player and because he is a bit tall at almost 6 feet, he was our center during the company’s sportsfests. As for myself, I only joined the team because of the free jersey.

:)

Kidding aside about the jersey, it was really nice to see old co-workers and friends again. Memories, good ones at that, will always put a smile on our face.

We Applied for a Marriage Certificate

Posted on the October 21st, 2009 under Uncategorized by admin

Yes, we did, my girlfriend and I. :)

We had to undergo a marriage counseling and family planning seminar earlier today. Those are required for any marriage certificate application. At first I thought it was going to be boring but I was surprised that the speakers were actually very good in handling such seminars. They are very lively and they love to engage us (audience) with their talks. That alone made us alert all of the time.

I’ve learned a lot about contraceptives especially what can be our options later on we have started our own family. I just don’t like the idea that the woman can gain weight while on the pills. I like the IUD because it does not have any chemical reactions to the female body and the health officer claimed that it is completely safe, effective and gives no discomfort to the female.

We will be getting our marriage certificate on November 3 and I am glad that we have made this great leap on our preparations for our wedding.  :)

I Got the Colds

Posted on the October 13th, 2009 under Uncategorized by admin

This is the worst feeling anybody can get each year: running nose, body aches, sore throat, slight fever and a heavy body feeling. It’s the colds! And it’s still the one disease that science still has not found a cure.

I don’t know the reason why doctors and scientists cannot seem to find that great solution to finally defeat colds, all that we have today are medicines that alleviate the symptoms of the cold virus.

Speaking of viruses, this might be the toughest virus out there. Imagine, countless research, billions of dollars spent on finding a cure and still nada? I’m sure there are some breakthroughs out there but not enough to finally make science declare victorious over the cold virus.

So for now here I am, taking a pill for my stuffed nose and hoping that I can sleep soundly tonight, even though I have also been coughing all day.

Typhoon Ondoy Did Not Spare My House

Living Room - before the cleanup

Living Room - before the cleanup

As you can see from the picture that the recent typhoon wrecked havoc to my house. All of my furniture got wet and are now thick with mud. My refrigerator and water dispenser floated around inside the house because the water reached chest-high.

I’m still thankful that only my things got wrecked. At least I am still alive along with my loved ones and my neighbors, too. We are now in the process of cleaning up the mess that Ondoy has left.
