Jumping Ship
Have you ever been fired? Retrenched? Forced to leave from your job?
My girlfriend is going through hell right now. Some of her co-workers from different departments have been retrenched and there’s a rumor circulating in their office that more will follow. I’ve told her to start submitting her resume to other companies just to be on the safe side. It’s nice to know you have other prospects in case the retrenchment continues.
What is more depressing is that she just found out that her manager is planning to jump ship. So the ship is sinking and one of the deck officers is jumping into the waters ahead of his subordinates and the passengers. Now that’s a sure sign that everything is not well.

My answers to all those questions are NO!
My last job also needed to reduce the workers because the headquarters had noticed that our company had a bigger manpower than that of the Thailand branch. The first people that they had to retrench in our company are the machine operators.
I’ve resigned from that job, and they had not replaced me with a new hire.
And yes, if a manager decides to leave, it can affect a lot on the motivation of co-workers. They had established a good influence on their subordinates in the beginning.
